For some background, I began my working life as an RPG II Programmer many years ago, way back in the day before Microsoft was even a thing! You may think this is an unlikely start to a career dedicated to Asset Management? However, the main outputs of my programming calculated financial forecasting – how much money was spent last financial year on roads, calculating the average condition of the road network, how much money we needed to spend the following financial year to maintain the network at the desired condition, etc. So even back then, I was kind of involved in Asset Management. It never ceases to amaze me how far technology has come and how readily available it is now. A program output back in the 80's that took days to write, compile, and run can be achieved in minutes today in Excel Spreadsheets! I love technology!

I also had an interest in maps. As a teenager, while my friends had the latest pin up on their bedroom walls, I had pictures of maps on mine – and I still think some of them are beautiful works of art. It seemed logical to combine my love of maps and my love of technology and I was lucky enough to secure a GIS Data Management position at the County Council where I lived in the UK working with roads data within the Roads and Transport department.

In 2005, my husband and I with our 3 beautiful daughters left the UK to begin our wonderful Australian adventure. We settled in South Australia near the McClaren Vale wine region and lived there for 12 years before deciding to start another new adventure up in Cairns Far North Queensland.

We sold our home, resigned from our jobs, left 2 of our 3 daughters in Adelaide and moved up to Cairns in 2017. I always liked the idea of being in a position where I could help as many people as possible working within Asset Management in local government. Starting my own Asset Management consultancy business seemed the perfect solution. I started my business, Iamdata.Solutions Pty Ltd, in September of that year. Since then, I have been working closely with many Councils across Australia.

If you are an Asset Manager you will know there are so many different strategies, projects, and tasks that sit under the ‘Asset Management’ umbrella within a council. My business is here to help wherever help is needed.

I have over 20 years of experience in Asset Management roles within Local Government and the private sector where I have been responsible for the management of infrastructure assets, asset data and many different asset systems. I have sound knowledge of local government legislation, standards and best practices having worked within local government for many years.

I also have extensive knowledge of database management, database development, and data standards and experience with SQL Server, SQL, SSMS, SSRS, ASP.NET, Visual Studio, C#, HTML and have used these tools to develop and implement a range of systems for many Councils across Australia. I have written customised SQL reports for customers, and developed desk top dashboards using data visualisation tools, such as Power BI.  Power BI is a great visualisation tool and is becoming very popular with Asset Managers.

Having worked as an Asset Manager myself, I am aware of most of the pain-points that Councils sometimes experience, whether it is a lack of resources, problems with asset data, issues with the asset system, etc.

I’m currently working with Councils in New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia helping in various ways. I can do this easily by remotely accessing the Council’s systems via a secure login provided by their IT Departments. This has proved to be very successful and is quickly becoming my customers preferred service delivery method – especially during the COVID lockdown. It enables me to immediately commence the work as soon as a secure login is provided and saves on traveling and time.  This method of working also fits in very well with my Environmental Policy.

Examples of recent work: (You can read more on our Past Projects page)

  • Developing Power BI Reports for Asset Managers, Works Managers & Finance Managers.

  • Preparation of Condition Data Collection Plans for infrastructure asset classes.

  • Configuration and development of various systems, e.g. Asset Management Systems, Geographical Information system, etc.

  • Spatial data and attribute data cleansing.

  • Data amendments, updates, and creation of assets (capital works / donated assets updates, etc) within Council’s bespoke Asset Management systems.

I understand that each client is unique and will have a unique business requirement and I strive to provide the best solutions to my clients by collaborating closely. Working together, we ensure the expected outcomes are achieved within budget and within specified time frames.

Please drop me a line if you'd like to work with me. I'd love to hear from you!
